Biography

Oliver P. Morton, born in 1823 and elected governor of Indiana as civil war loomed, led the state with unwavering resolve, mobilizing troops, securing supplies, and acting as a tireless champion of the Union cause even while battling personal illness.

He later served in the United States Senate, where he defended veterans' interests and the rights of freedpeople, and he is remembered for his fierce patriotism and rugged perseverance as he rests at Crown Hill Cemetery.
