Biography
Orsamus B. Matteson, born in 1805, trained as a lawyer before representing New York in the U.S. Congress, where he supported commerce and internal improvements that would encourage growth across the state.
After his terms in Washington he returned to legal practice and used the experience he gained to mentor young attorneys and to promote responsible governance in his home region.
