Oscar Gamble thrilled fans as a power-hitting outfielder who spent many seasons with the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox, and other clubs, earning admiration for his infectious grin and his signature hairdo. He was as generous in the clubhouse as he was formidable at the plate, mentoring young players and keeping spirits high.
