Biography
Oscar Torp devoted his life to building a kinder Norway, rising through the Labour movement to serve his country as prime minister from 1951 to 1955 and as minister of defence and finance before that. His insistence on expanding social security, investing in education, and defending parliamentary democracy helped steady the nation through decades of change.
Even after leaving the premiership he remained a steady presence in public service, respected for his competence and integrity, and remembered as a leader who believed deeply in solidarity and the welfare of every citizen.
