Oskar Vesely was born in 1889 and lived through the dramatic transformations of early twentieth-century Europe, from the Austro-Hungarian Empire through the formation of Czechoslovakia and the subsequent decades of change. His life spanned nearly seven decades of profound historical significance in Central Europe.
