Othmar Schoeck

Biography

Othmar Schoeck, a central figure in Swiss musical life, translated the lyricism of German Romanticism into Swiss identity through songs, operas, and chamber works. His voice was intimate and introspective, often channeling poetry to express love, longing, and the beauty of the Alps.

Despite facing controversy in his later years, Schoeck maintained his artistic integrity and continued composing with fervor until his final days. The Cemetery Manegg now holds this composer whose melodies remain woven into Swiss cultural memory.
