Otho S. A. Sprague

Biography

Otho S. A. Sprague combined sharp business instincts with a generous spirit as he guided Chicago enterprises and stewarded his growing estate. In his later years he used that prosperity to endow the Sprague Memorial Institute and other charitable ventures dedicated to education and medical research.

Friends remembered him for his calm judgment and ready support of civic causes; he passed away in 1909 and was laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery, leaving behind institutions that continue to benefit the public.
