Biography
Otto Kerner Jr., born in 1908, led Illinois as governor during an era of growth, championing fair housing, civil rights, and modern highways while fostering public schools and economic development. His tenure reflected a steady regard for justice and the orderly administration of government services.
He later brought that same temperament to the federal bench, advising colleagues and mentoring young lawyers while remaining mindful of the ideals of public service; he is now remembered among the honored interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
