Biography

Paku Alam I was an important ruler of Kotagede in Java during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Born in 1760, he led his principality through a period of significant regional and colonial pressures, working to maintain autonomy and cultural traditions.

He died in 1829 and was buried in Kotagede, where his legacy as a respected leader remains part of the region's historical heritage and identity.
