Pál Turán
1910–1976 (age 66)
Biography
Pál Turán was a Hungarian mathematician whose insights helped shape analytic number theory and the burgeoning field of extremal graph theory. His work on Turán's theorem, the Turán–Kubilius inequality, and the study of power sums provided tools that remain foundational for modern combinatorics and number theory.
He taught generations of students at the University of Budapest and drew admiration for combining deep theory with a spirited temperament; his presence is still felt through the theorems that bear his name. He was laid to rest at the Farkasrét Jewish cemetery, where his grave stands as a quiet testament to a life devoted to rigorous thought.
