Biography

Paul G. Hatfield, born in 1928, served his country in the U.S. Army before becoming an advocate for justice in Montana. He was appointed to the United States Senate in 1978 and later became a federal district judge, where he was known for his thoughtful decisions and respect for the rule of law.

Even after retiring from the bench, he remained active in civic affairs, mentoring young lawyers and supporting efforts to improve access to legal counsel. His reputation for integrity and fairness left a deep imprint on the communities he served.
