Paul Reynaud

1878–1966 (age 88)

Biography

Born in 1878, Paul Reynaud first made his mark as a lawyer and a principled advocate within the turbulent politics of the Third Republic. He moved swiftly into public office, where his defense of parliamentary liberties and early warnings about the looming threat of war earned him both respect and enemies.

During the desperate months before the fall of France, Reynaud strove to keep the nation united and to sustain the fight. His dignified presence and unshaken commitment to republican values live on at Montparnasse Cemetery, where he rests among fellow servants of the state.
