Biography
Paul Schell (1937–2014) led Seattle as its mayor from 1998 to 2002 after careers in law, urban design, and arts advocacy, championing public spaces and civic dialogue. He brought community voices into planning processes, encouraged public art, and worked to keep Seattle’s waterfront, parks, and neighborhoods thriving.
He tirelessly sought to knit neighborhoods together, promote affordable housing, and energize volunteer efforts, and colleagues remember him fondly as he rests at Langley Woodman Cemetery.
