Peter Høier Holtermann

1820–1865 (age 45)

Biography

Peter Høier Holtermann, born in 1820, designed churches and civic buildings that married neoclassical clarity with motifs drawn from the Norwegian landscape. Trained in drawing and proportion, he left a mark on towns seeking dignity in their public spaces.

Though his career was cut short, the sturdiness of his lines and the warmth of his facades endure, and his name is honored at Vår Frelsers gravlund.
