Biography

Philip Augustus Marquam (1823-1912) was a pioneering civic leader and jurist whose ventures in law, real estate, and infrastructure helped shape early Portland, Oregon, including the hill that bears his name.

He devoted energy to public works and the public welfare, and he rests among the trees of River View Cemetery.
