Biography
Philip Cook, born in 1817 and passing in 1894, served Georgia with distinction as a planter, military officer, and later as a U.S. congressman, shaping the state's institutions before the Civil War. He remained deeply involved in the civic life of his homeland, nurturing education and supporting the farmers who formed the backbone of the region.
After the turbulence of war he returned to public service, helping to rebuild and guide Georgia through reconstruction, and he now rests at Rose Hill Cemetery, where his dedication to duty continues to be remembered.
