Philip N. Vaugine came into the world in 1836 and made his way to Jefferson County, where he became known as a thoughtful presence among those who were building the future of that region.

He spent his life cultivating relationships and encouraging the young citizens of his community to pursue their aims, leaving a legacy of helpfulness when he died in 1900.
