Phinehas Spencer was born in 1759 and came of age during the American Revolution. He lived through a transformative period in the nation's history, contributing to his community's growth and stability during the early years of independence.

Spencer's life spanned fifty-six years, and his memory is honored at Rupert Street Cemetery, where he rests among the community he served until his death in 1815.
