Biography
Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours, born in 1739 in France, was a luminous figure in the world of political economy and diplomacy, championing the physiocratic ideals that emphasized the importance of agriculture and property rights. He served his country in a number of negotiations before embracing a new chapter across the Atlantic, where he and his family began to build a life rooted in principle and industry.
In America he continued to counsel leaders, support immigrant communities, and nurture the vision that would eventually spring from the du Pont lands, and today his enduring legacy is honored at the Du Pont de Nemours Cemetery.
