Biography
Prentice Gautt, born in 1938, broke barriers as the first African-American scholarship athlete at the University of Oklahoma and later as a professional football player. He relied on quiet determination and a deeply held belief in the value of education to carry him through the challenges of his pioneering role.
After his playing days he remained an advocate for student-athletes, mentoring youth and promoting opportunities in both sports and academics.
