Biography

Born in 1846 as the third daughter of Queen Victoria, Princess Helena of the United Kingdom devoted her life to public service and the advancement of nursing and women’s education. A prolific writer, she recorded her observations on royal life and championed the causes of the Women’s Hospital and the Royal British Nurses’ Association.

Helena’s literary output, guided by a sense of duty, combined memoir, correspondence, and essays to preserve the memory of her family and the charitable endeavors she supported; she was laid to rest at the Royal Burial Ground.
