Prudence Crandall

Biography

Prudence Crandall lived through much of the nineteenth century as a pioneering educator who believed schools should open avenues of learning for all young people.

Her courage in defending equal educational opportunities left a deep imprint on those she taught and continues to inspire the many visitors who pause at Elk Falls Cemetery to honor her memory.
