R. D. Laing

1927–1989 (age 62)

Biography

R. D. Laing, born in 1927, became one of the most provocative voices in psychiatry, challenging institutions and advocating for compassionate understanding of the alienation felt by those shaped by war and trauma.

Even as his ideas sparked debate, he kept correspondence with students near the Western Necropolis and remained committed to the belief that healing began with listening to each person’s story.
