Biography

Radaslaŭ Astroŭski devoted his life to Belarusian independence and to teaching, shaping the consciousness of a nation through scholarship, journalism, and civic leadership from the days of the Russian Empire through the mid-twentieth century. Whether founding schools, editing journals, or organizing civic councils, he insisted that the voice of Belarus should be heard and respected abroad.

After war and upheaval displaced him, he remained in exile, helping Belarusian communities in North America preserve language and culture, and he is now laid to rest at South River Belarusian Cemetery, where his tireless devotion to his people is remembered with gratitude.
