Ramón Emeterio Betances

Biography

Born in Cabo Rojo, Ramón Emeterio Betances pursued the study of medicine that became his avenue to defend the disenfranchised, traveling to distant cities to tend the ill and advocate for fundamental human rights.

He leaves behind the memory of an unflinching abolitionist and patriot whose courage inspired compatriots to imagine a more just future for Puerto Rico.
