Biography
Raphael Cohen (1722–1803) was a respected rabbi who served the Jewish community in Hamburg-Altona during the 18th century. As a religious leader, he played an important role in the spiritual and communal life of one of Northern Europe's most significant Jewish centers during this period.
Cohen's 81-year lifespan encompassed much of the 18th century, a time of gradual change in the status and organization of German-Jewish communities. His burial at the Jewish cemetery in Hamburg-Altona reflects his prominence and long service to the community he led.
