Rasmus Løland

1861–1907 (age 46)

Biography

Rasmus Løland drew on the rhythms of rural life and the Norwegian countryside to become one of the most cherished writers for children at the turn of the century. He infused simple stories with warmth, lyricism, and a respect for the everyday perseverance of farmers, fishermen, and their families, while also contributing poetry and essays to leading periodicals of his time.

Even as ill health shortened his years, Løland remained dedicated to the readers who flocked to his tales, visiting schools and sharing his enthusiasm for books. His burial at Asker kirkegård is a quiet testament to a life spent nurturing imagination and fostering a love of language in the youngest Norwegians.
