Recha Freier
1892–1984 (age 92)
Biography
Recha Freier combined a writer's sensibility with daring activism as she founded Youth Aliyah to rescue thousands of young Jews from Europe, writing articles that urged communities to open their hearts and homes. She also published essays and fiction that reflected on identity, memory, and the moral courage she saw in everyday people.
In Israel she stayed closely connected to the youth she helped and continued to advocate for education rooted in empathy and justice; she rests at Har HaMenuchot.
