Biography

Rex Slinkard (1887-1918) emerged as one of California's most promising painters, blending Tonalist lyricism with the muscular lines of modernism and capturing light with a lyrical grace. He studied at the Art Students League and taught young artists before dedicating himself to a deeply felt vision of the human figure and the natural world.

His life was cut short during the upheaval of 1918, yet his luminous canvases and generous mentorship continue to be honored by students and admirers; he rests at Inglewood Park Cemetery, where his artistic spirit remains an inspiration.
