Biography
Raised on a Minnesota farm, Reynold B. Johnson pursued electrical engineering and joined IBM during a period of rapid growth, eventually leading the team that produced the RAMAC 305, the first commercial disk storage unit, earning him the nickname "father of the disk drive."
Beyond the breakthrough in data storage, he dedicated himself to encouraging young scientists and educators, sharing the practical lessons of experimentation and patience that guided his work for decades.
