Richard Christopher Carrington devoted his life to the patient study of the Sun, refining telescopic techniques that captured sunspots with clarity unseen before. His meticulous charts and commitment to observational precision crowned him a leading astronomer of mid-Victorian Britain, and his insight into solar magnetism shaped the trajectory of heliophysics.
The June 1859 flare he recorded, later called the Carrington Event, astonished fellow scientists and remains a benchmark for solar storms; he spent his final years sharing his knowledge at West Norwood, where he rests among peers who celebrated the heavens he so loved.
