Biography
Richard F. Kneip was born in Scotland, South Dakota, and after studying at the University of South Dakota he returned home to practice law and serve in the state legislature, laying the groundwork for his election as governor.
As governor he championed economic development, education, and conservation before President Carter named him ambassador to Singapore; after returning to private life he remained engaged in civic affairs, and he is buried at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
