Biography

Richard Henderson Beamer, born in 1849, called Woodland home for most of his years; he guided his family through the aftermath of the Civil War and the growth of the railroads that touched the county. He devoted himself to the rhythms of field and mill, always mindful that the health of the town depended on the care of land and friendship.

His sense of duty carried into civic affairs, where he preferred listening and steady leadership rather than the spotlight. Woodland remembers him as the neighbor who would mend a fence, offer sage advice, and quietly celebrate every harvest.
