Biography

Richard Henry Norton came into the world in 1849 and matured as Troy transformed from quiet farms to a town with rising industry; he kept close watch on the balance between progress and the values his neighbors held dear.

Through decades of change he remained a generous host to family and friends, eager to share the harvest of his labor and to encourage the younger generations who followed him down Troy's streets, and when he died early in 1918 his community remembered his steady counsel.
