Richard Stockton

Biography

Richard Stockton (1764–1828) was an early American lawyer and statesman who carried forward his family's commitment to public service by representing New Jersey as a U.S. senator at the turn of the century.

He remained a steady presence for his community, offering counsel in seasons of change and ensuring Princeton's civic life was enriched by his experience before he was laid to rest at Princeton Cemetery.
