Biography

Richmond Pearson Hobson forged a reputation for daring early in his naval career, volunteering to lead the desperate attempt to block the entrance to Santiago Harbor during the Spanish-American War. His bravery cost him his health but won him the nation’s admiration and a Medal of Honor, a testament to a life offered willingly in service of country.

Following retirement from the Navy, he brought that same conviction to Congress, where he championed naval preparedness, veterans’ causes, and the social welfare of sailors and their families.
