Biography

Born in 1842, Rikard Nordraak poured his talent into capturing the Norwegian spirit in song, culminating in the anthem that still unites the nation. His brief but intense training allowed him to weave folk melodies with Romantic vigor.

Though he died in 1866, his pioneering harmonies inspired future composers and the wreaths that adorn his grave at Vår Frelsers gravlund testify to the gratitude of a nation.
