Biography

Robert Chambers blended natural history with thoughtful publishing, bringing the wonders of geology, biology, and astronomy into the hands of readers through Chambers's Edinburgh Journal and other volumes.

His leadership of the publication house and his willingness to engage with emerging science encouraged civil conversation about the natural world, while his personal generosity sustained educational ventures, and he now rests in the grounds of St Andrews Cathedral.
