Biography
Robert D. Orr devoted his life to public service in Indiana, rising through the ranks of the Republican Party to serve as the state’s 45th governor. A graduate of Yale and Princeton, he brought a businesslike focus to education reform, economic development, and budget discipline, and he worked to strengthen the state’s infrastructure and international trade relationships.
After two terms as governor, he represented the United States as ambassador to Singapore, continuing to promote diplomacy and trade ties that benefited Hoosiers and Americans alike. He remained active in civic affairs until his final years and was laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery, where his legacy of steady leadership endures.
