Biography

Robert Liston became one of the era's most celebrated surgeons, famed for his extraordinary speed in the operating theatre and for introducing new instruments and practices that reduced suffering.

He lectured widely, trained pupils on both sides of the Atlantic, and remained committed to improving surgical safety, dying in 1847 after a lifetime of service and finding his final repose at Highgate Cemetery.
