Biography
Robert O. Tyler, a West Point graduate who joined the Union Army, earned a reputation for dependable leadership as he commanded artillery and troops in hard-fought campaigns such as Antietam and Fredericksburg during the Civil War.
After the war he continued to serve his country with the same steady hand, caring for veteran affairs and garrison duties until illness claimed him in 1874, and he was laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
