Biography
Robert S. Granger spent his adult life in service to the United States Army, seeing duty from the border wars in the 1840s through the Civil War and later standing watch over matters of peace, and his memory remains in Greenwood Cemetery alongside fellow veterans.
He accepted commands in the crucial years of Reconstruction, overseeing Freedmen's Bureau operations in Texas and embodying the principle of order tempered with compassion for freed families.
