Biography

Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington, combined his family's banking interests with political service, representing constituencies such as Nottingham and lending a calm business mind to debates on trade, finance, and the Corn Laws.

Elevated to the peerage in 1797 as Baron Carrington, he continued to advocate for agricultural improvement and supported charitable causes in his Wycombe constituency before dying in 1838.
