Biography
Robert Stephen Hawker combined his calling as a clergyman with a poet’s imagination, composing verses that celebrated the Cornish landscape and its traditions. His best-known composition, “The Song of the Western Men,” captured the spirit of a proud region, while his pastoral work reflected a deep compassion for the souls under his care.
Hawker embraced both the joys and sorrows of rural life, earning the affection of his parishioners and the admiration of literary circles. Following his passing, he was interred at Ford Park Cemetery, where visitors remember his singular fusion of piety and poetic voice.
