Roi Ottley made his mark as a journalist and author whose reports on African American life, labor issues, and the broader diaspora were filled with vivid detail and unsparing honesty, most famously in his book New World A-Coming and in his work for national publications.
He traveled widely to capture voices often overlooked, and he now rests among fellow storytellers at Burr Oak Cemetery, leaving a legacy of courageous chronicling.
