Biography

Rosetta Douglass (1839–1906) devoted herself to education, believing that knowledge was the surest pathway to freedom for her students and their families. As a teacher she encouraged young minds to ask questions, stand tall in the face of prejudice, and recognize their dignified place in society, carrying forward the family legacy of advocacy with calm determination.

She remained a model of integrity and encouragement to her peers, and those who visit Mount Hope Cemetery remember her as a guiding light whose lessons continue to nurture future generations.
