Rutgert Van Brunt (1733–1812) belonged to the longstanding Van Brunt family of Gravesend, and his life spanned the tumultuous years of colonial America and the early Republic. He tended the lands of his community, offering a steady presence for neighbors and family members facing uncertain times.

His final resting place in Gravesend Cemetery preserves the memory of a local steward whose quiet service helped anchor the small settlement through decades of change.
