Biography

Sam Langford was one of the great early 20th-century boxers, competing across weight classes and earning a reputation for his defensive skill and powerful punching despite being denied a world title for much of his career.

He carried that resilience beyond the ring, mentoring younger fighters and representing Black athletes with dignity before being laid to rest at Cambridge Cemetery in 1956.
