Biography

Born in 1779 in South Carolina, Samuel B. Moore rose through Alabama’s early political ranks, serving as speaker of the state senate and assuming the governorship to guide the young state through growth and the development of its civic institutions.

After leaving office he remained a respected elder in his community, and today visitors to Carrollton Cemetery reflect on the steady leadership he offered during a defining era for Alabama.
