Biography

Samuel B. Williams greeted each day with the steady optimism of someone who had watched his community weather rapid change from the rural 1820s into the dawn of the twentieth century. He carried himself with quiet dignity, offering counsel to neighbors, supporting young people as they sought learning, and keeping the bonds of kinship strong through good and hard times.

When he passed in 1901, his friends honored him at Forest Hill Cemetery, recalling his unwavering fairness and the fact that he had been a safe harbor for many a weary traveler through life.
